Frugal Menu Planning–Getting Started
Tuesday 31 March 2009 @ 1:18 pm

Getting started making a plan for a week’s worth of
meals can surely be a bit daunting at first. It
need not be complicated–though a little bit of
time spent planning will be well worth it!

A good way to start is by looking at what you already
have on hand — sort of taking a visual inventory.

Next,it’s helpful to list on a piece of paper, all the meals
for the coming week.
For example, list all the days, then Breakfast, Lunch,
Dinner, etc.

On this list of meals, write down a main dish and a couple
of side dishes that you want to make, keeping in mind what
staples are on hand in the cupboard and in the
freezer. Try to come up with as many meals as you
can with what you have on hand.

Remember to write down some of the extras you
think you might like to make during the coming week —
such as cookies, snacks or desserts.

Always keep the ads from the local grocery store
handy and plan meals around the weekly specials,
if possible. Don’t just think about main dishes; if
bananas are on sale, make banana bread for snacks,
or lunches, for example.

While you are making your menu plan, think about what
will be happening in the next week. Is Friday night
Football Game Night? Plan to have a supper that is
quick to fix. Is Wednesday your day off? That is the
day you might want to try out a new recipe that takes
a little longer to prepare.

Whatever your schedule, plan your menus around it.
And be flexible! If it snows on Tuesday, and you hadn’t
planned to make chili until Thursday, you can just switch the
menus around.

Keep your lists, so that in weeks to come, you can be
reminded of some meals your family especially liked
(or disliked!). After a few weeks, you will end up with a
set of weekly menus that you can use over and over.

With your plan in hand, you won’t be tempted to
go for takeout because you just can’t think of anything
to make for supper. And you won’t get caught without
that “one ingredient” you need to make tonight’s supper,
so no more last minute trips to the grocery store!

Do You Have What it Takes to Learn to Read Music?
Saturday 28 March 2009 @ 10:35 am

You probably remember those dreaded aptitude tests in school. You know,
those tests that revealed your abilities to perform certain tasks?

Well, it’s time to stop dreaming, and put your desire to learn music to the test.

The desire for music is within you, but do you really have what it takes to learn to read music? Discover your own musical capabilities below.

Musical Talent or Not - Does it Matter?

You may not be able to read music right now. You most likely cannot pick up a flute, a guitar or a violin and play a beautiful melody. Even so, everyone around you is always saying how musically talented you are.

Perhaps you can memorize musical tunes on key upon hearing them, create an original song in your mind, or maybe even play an instrument or two without really knowing how to read the music. These are all indications of having natural musical talent.

But, do you have the potential to achieve music?

Even if you have none of the musical abilities above, you can still learn to read music.

Where “natural talent” doesn’t exist, learned musical skills can still be used to make beautiful music. Your love and desire for learning and achieving music is what will make the difference whether you have natural talent or not.

Think of your present career. If you pursued what you loved, you were able to
achieve the skill through learning, right? If you’re a typist, you learned to type.

If you’re a nurse, you went to nursing school.. If you’re a mechanic, you attended
a technical school to achieve this. To read music, you must learn it as well.

Question #1: Do I love music enough to learn how to read music and play a musical instrument?

Learning to Read Music for Adults

If you missed out on music lessons as a child or simply forgot what you
learned, it’s not too late to develop musical skills. Adults can learn to read
music. In truth, a person who has a real desire to learn might achieve more than a child who is being pushed to learn.

Why? As an adult, you already understand the great potential of having this skill. Having a passion for music will drive you to practice often and develop your skills quickly. Only those adults and children who have a desire to continue with music will actually achieve the skill for life!

Question #2: Are you willing to learn music and be dedicated to practice at this stage of your life?

A Goal for Your Music Skills

Another determining factor for learning to read music is your reason for
learning. There should be a goal in mind while developing this skill. Whether
it’s to play an instrument in church, at special gatherings or to have a career in
music, you should have a goal in mind.

With a goal, you’ll be pushed to learn even when you don’t feel like taking a lesson. This is similar to taking college courses.
You attend the classes because you must if you are going to have a successful
career in that field.

Question #3: Do you have a goal or reason for learning to read music?

If you answered “Yes” to all of the above, read the questions below.

Which instrument do I want to play?
If a skilled music teacher is not available, am I willing to teach myself through online training?
When my music lessons begin, can I dedicate at least 15 to 30 minutes per day to practice?

If you answered “Yes” to all these questions, you’re ready to pursue music
lessons.

Start developing your musical skills today to discover a life-long
treasure!

Famous Fender Stratocaster History
Saturday 28 March 2009 @ 10:07 am

Fender Stratocaster history begins with the man some people call the king of surf music. Dick Dale is the man who some believe invented surf music as early as the 1950’s. No, it wasn’t the Beach Boys. It was Dick Dale.

He had the musical assistance of Leo Fender, inventor of the Fender Stratocaster. Part of early Fender Stratocaster history includes the story of Leo Fender’s gift to Dick Dale of a Fender Stratocaster to use in his live performances. He wanted Dick to try the Fender Stratocaster - and the rest is history, as the saying goes.

Did he try that guitar! The Fender Stratocaster history at that point was one of taking abuse and living through it, as Dale beat that guitar, hurling loud raucous music into the night, and destroying forty nine different amps until one actually caught on fire. Stratocaster history that night including the entertaining Dick Dale using the right handed guitar for left-handed play, playing upside down and created all new sounds.

Leo, Freddy Fender and Dale joined forces to find new, more tolerable speakers and this was the beginning of heavy metal Fender Stratocaster. They approached a company that made speakers and asked that they design a fifteen-inch Fender Stratocaster speaker. This made Fender Stratocaster speaker history.
Fender history included the fact that Dick Dale became the first person to take the quiet guitar player image and transform her or him into a loud heavy metal entertainer.

Included in this portion of Fender history was Guitar Player Magazine, who as a result now referred to Dick Dale as the father of heavy metal. Stratocaster history, then, is about the transition from quiet soothing singalong surf music to the heavy metal sound of the sixties.

Euromillions and Something You Might Not Know. How it Functions, Who it Applies to plus How You Can You Encounter that Huge European Lotto
Friday 27 March 2009 @ 9:48 am

The Euro lotto was to begin with founded by the national lotteries of France, the United Kingdom and Spain and was unveiled in Feb-04. The first draw was on Feb 13th 04 in Paris. The France, Spain and the United Kingdom were the only nations partaking in the beginning but lotteries from Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg and Portugal likewise got active in Oct 04.

The euro millions lotto or the Euro lotto, as it’s commonly well-known, gathers the ticket receipts of the nine partaking Euro countries delivering a tremendous Euro lottery “jackpot”. With the amount of countries joining the Euro on the increase, that will without a doubt lead to even more states partaking in the Euro Millions lottery. A growth in the amount of individuals partaking in the Euromillions Lottery will lead to a lasting increase of the already massive EuroMillions “jackpots”.

Q. How To Play The EuroMillions Lottery

Each player has to pick out five primary numbers from 1 to 50 and two Lucky-star numbers from 1 to 9. During the lotto draw, five main and 2 lucky star numbers are then selected at random from 2 lottery draw machines containing numbered balls.

Euro Lottery Prizes

The probabilities of scooping the Euro Millions jackpot is a far-off one : 76 million but the chances of acquiring a money prize is a somewhat decent 1 : 24. If the jackpot is not won in a given lotto draw, it is carried forward to the next lottery draw that will result in an ever increasing jackpot prize. New rules added on the 09-Feb-07 specify the number of consecutive roll overs to eleven, with the jackpot rolled out to lower value levels on the eleventh lottery draw when the prize is not won.

The new regulations also initiated European Lottery Super-Draw which come about twice annually plus they offer “jackpots” in the region of £100 million. The difference with Super-Draws is that the jackpot must be collected during the week of the draw; this means, if there is no lotto ticket matching, all the numbers drawn and the top prize will then be distributed to the lotto ticket bearer(s) in the succeeding winning prize tier.

The History of the First Skiing Trips to Chamonix Town
Wednesday 25 March 2009 @ 4:20 pm

Back in 1770 the first tourist hotel was opened in Chamonix Mont Blanc France. Prior to this Chamonix ski resort constituted a savage and tough rural hamlet where people caught animals and harvested their oats.

Barns at this time were used to breed animals over the spring and summer. The cows milk was conserved by making it into cheeses and stored in the farm for consumption over the difficult wintertimes. In the winter the farmhouses were secured, and any valuables were locked in a small shack.

The person who invented the chalet vacation is obscured by time, it was probably some spirited people who recognized a idea which was new and exciting. With Erna Low it started when she was a unhappy student who could not afford to visit her siblings back home as frequently as she liked. So in the early 1930’s she took a gamble and put a advertisement in the London Times to ask clients on a ski vacation. The cost was £15 and they journeyed to and from the village, had breakfast and dinner and lodging in the sole hotel, and paid for skiing gear and tuition. The holiday was difficult work, there weren’t any ski lifts, no safety fixations, just leather shoes, but it was such a hit that she continued to take people on holidays, guaranteeing she used fantastic hotels and ski instructors.

The chalet trips in the beginning were very different to the standards we enjoy today. In the early days hot water was in short supply, bathrooms had to be used with all of the guests, and there was no a chef; all the punters had to help out with the chores. It was a complete lottery as to who might share the chalet for a trip, you might be pleased by meeting new acquaintances, or spend a week of hell with people you didn’t get on with.

Chalets France were later marketed on its extra benefits. A chef, who served you breakfast and an evening meal and cooked you afternoon tea, and {more warm water.

A barrister bookcase is a unreformed shelf that is believed to have originated in Britain. Its discerning feature is a pure glass front. This glass front end is hinged at the top allowing a person easy access to books and other collectibles simply by raising the glass door. The barrister bookcase is perfect for a thousand things. A Barrister’s bookcase was often used by a lawyers since it was often necessary for them to move. Today, they are very handy, specially if one is perpetually on the move. This is because the bookcase is closed by use of doors.. This prevents them from having to be voided on moving

These antique book shelves

Solid Barrister’s Oak Bookshelves avoid the use of the normal sideways opening doors . Instead they use doors with a unusual opening mechanism. A scissor mechanism when used inside the barrister shelves ensure the moving doors do it in a parallel fashion without getting the doors jam or skew in the procedure. One advantage of A Barrister’s bookcase is the ability to have some of these units stacked together and have them secured to a wall. The effect of an attractive cabinet will be given. They can be made out of a number of materials Whether madeutilising glass or wood, these bookcases give an elgance to a room.

This special kind of book shelves, despite their many merits, often are rather costly. Many versions have simple appearances and can be made to fit a particular style. They can also be trimmed cheaply. They can be stacked together allowing them to be easily used to create very interesting unit placements. In Los Angeles it seems all waiters in fine restaurants are awaiting their big break as actors; in Las Vegas it seems that all the waiters and captains have advanced college degrees and that is what is making the Strip one of the hottest dining areas in the world.

It is so refreshing to not only dine in style, but also to carry on philosophical discussions with the captain of our table so is the case with our wonderful experience at Lutce, inside the Venetian Resort and Casino, the only restaurant in the hotel facing the Strip and overlooking the Grand Canal. Our captain, Jason, is a pleasurable and congenial young man, recently married, working on his PhD in Philosophy and Ancient Civilizations, so naturally the gamut of the conversation ranges from the recent Aristotle scroll high tech computer deciphering to wine from ancient Rome.

We start the evening with Evian water but Lutce (loo - tess) offers Pellegrino sparkling water as well, which we follow with a modestly priced bottle of Brouilly Beaujolais Cru, Chateau de la Chaize, ‘02 (or at $11 a glass), made from pure Gamay grapes. According to Jason, it is one of the few red grapes that should be slightly chilled, like most white wines.

Lutce is one of two Ark restaurants in the Venetian Resort, and it has one of the best wine selections in Las Vegas, in a town with some of the best cellars in the world. The extensive wine menu includes crisp white blends, unusual Syrahs (even a petit Syrahs), extensive champagnes, prestige Cuvees, Meritage/Proprietary varietals, and even rare finds like Saint Estephe and Saint Julien and Saint Emilion and Puiseeguin Saint Emilion. The most expensive bottle in their line-up is probably the Chateau Mouton Rothschild ‘82 at $2400 a bottle.

Our celebrity chef of the evening, Andre Becker, recommends, as does Jason, the five course tasting menu that begins with an appetizer of Scottish Smoked Salmon on Baby Frisee Salad, and Citrus Crme Fraiche Vinaigrette ($16); the freshest I have had since I left the Celtic isles.

Next up is the first course in the five course presentation: Aussie Tuna (Ahi Tuna “Mille Feuille”) plated sashimi fashion with 1/8 inch Granny Smith slice separations, with a garnish of Argan Oil ($17). Another choice could have been Fois Gras with Smooth Lentil Cream Sauce, (seared Fois Gras and Green Lentils “Du Puy Puree” $19).

The second course of the evening: Classic Lobster Bisque ($14), with the chef adding Lobster Oil with a garnish of fresh cayenne pepper and a Roulade infusion of scallops. Another choice could have been the Chilled Bell Pepper and Tomato Soup with Crab Cocktail ($12), or a more expensive choice, the Russian Beluga Caviar “AAA” at market price.

The third course: Star Anise Crested Sea Scallops two scallops at about an ounce each sautéed in butter and garlic with herbs placed on a cloud of celery root puree with lemongrass and orange reduction ($31). Another outstanding choice could have been Dover Sole Meunire (Veal Demi-Glace Sautéed Bok Choy, and Lemon Confit $40).

The fourth course is the entrée of Sautéed Beef Tenderloin (Rossini Style) four ounces of tenderloin cooked to temperature Chef Andre recommends medium rare, with a medallion of fois gras and a drizzle of black truffle and merlot, coming with a side of Potato Croquettes, making their arrival in a cute, small personal cast iron pot with little handles, keeping the spud pinky fingers bursting hot ($38).

Other finely designed Lutce entrées include:

Farm Raised Chicken (Cocotte Style $29)
Roasted Muscovy Duck (Peking-Style $29)
Pepper-Crusted Rib Eye ($36)
Grilled Colorado Rack of Lamb ($39)
Pan-Roasted Squab ($31)
Milk Fed Veal Chop ($41), or:
Braised Beef Short Rib ($30).

The final fine dining endeavor is the Verona Chocolate Mousse Cake with hardened shell. No woman alive can deny this delicacy - nor any man!

Originally out of New York City, Lutce opened four years ago (2001) at the Venetian Resort (the New York venue is closed), and designed and blueprinted for two stories (but now Vivid Night Club is upstairs). The fashionable (A metallic faux teakwood swirls across the main room.), contemporary restaurant no 90 degree angles anywhere has seen a series of celebrity chefs, including David Faye and Gustav, the principal Lutce owner, and now Andre Becker.

Lutce, which is the ancient name of Paris, France, is an intimate cubbyhole of a restaurant, with only 18 tables in the main room where we watched from a small alcove the glorious sun setting across the Strip; there are also 16 tables in the private salon and 16 patio tables that are perfect with the right night temperatures.

Lutce is open

Foods for Weight Loss
Monday 16 March 2009 @ 3:59 pm

Many people would like to know what a diet would look like if it was filled with foods for weight loss. The answer is that it would be very fresh looking without much processed foods. Processed foods are just that, processed, which many times can remove the healthy aspects of foods and make them bad foods for weight loss. On the flip side, you can eat as many fruits and veggies as you want every day because these are wonderful foods for weight loss.

Many people also believe that it is possible to lose weight just by eating a reduced calorie diet, and that it doesn’t matter what types of foods you’re eating. This is completely false. For instance, a person who wanted to lose weight and therefore went on a restricted calorie diet of fast food might gain weight instead of losing it. The reason for this is because fast food is not good for you. It is not among the foods for weight loss that you’ll want to have in your diet.

A good diet will be rich in whole grains and lean proteins. The idea of a good diet is that it will work for you instead of against you. If a diet causes you to gain weight, it is working against you. Often, all it takes is a slight lifestyle shift for you to begin losing weight immediately. For instance, if you eat fast food, stop and you might lose 10 pounds fast. If you drink soda, give it up and watch the weight melt off. Start making changes in your diet that will give you the freedom to eat without gaining weight.
